LED Bulbs Are A Good Step Towards Being Green

If you are trying to go green at home, there are ways that you can do it. You don't have to jump in and make big changes like immediately getting solar panels and getting rid of the power company, you can start with small changes and build up. One small change you can make is to change your light bulbs to LED bulbs.

LED stands for light emitting diode. The diode itself is a very basic, very simple circuit. It is made up of a wire that is connected to a power source at both ends. The wire has a bend in the middle that has a bulb on it. When the power source is connected and the circuit is completed, the bulb lights up. The diodes can come in many colors, but they are most commonly blue, red, yellow, or white. Most colors can be made using combinations of those colors. If you choose to get LED bulbs for your home, they will generally be white. There are several benefits to using these bulbs in your house.

One of the biggest benefits of using LED light bulbs is that they are very long-lived. That means that you don't have to replace them very often. While they are more expensive at the outset, the fact that they do last so long means that in the long run, they will cost much less than other light bulbs. Another benefit is that they don't waste energy by generating heat. If you have ever touched an incandescent light bulb when it has been on, you know that it got hot. That heat is wasted energy. A LED bulb uses energy much more efficiently. If you touch one of those bulbs after it has been on for awhile you will notice that it is cool to the touch. That means no wasted energy, which means no wasted money on your part. LED bulbs also give a nice, bright light. You need a smaller bulb for the amount of light that you want than you would get from other bulbs. That quality of light can make it easier for you to read or do other close work. 

If you are looking to go green, you want to start with small steps and then build up to more major changes. Changing out all your light bulbs to LED bulbs, such as from Colt LED, can be a good first step.
